On May 13th, I together with the PGH Blood Bank team conducted another blood drive in St. Augustine College of Nursing. The event lasted for about 7 hours as we had to wait for the availability of students in between their break time. It was funny to see the students different reactions. Majority were first time blood donors and were obviously afraid to be pricked by a needle. But through the encouragement of their peers and professors, we gathered almost 50 donors. Each of the student emerged smiling after the procedure. One student commented that she feels proud because she had done something very valuable in her life for a worthy cause. Several students were disappointed that they did not meet the medical qualifications to become blood donors.
The School Director has promised to continue to collaborate with TMF in this endeavor. The next blood letting activity is set this coming July 2009.
