One Minute of Fame

Last March 11th, a
group of 13 patients were granted access to a watch a live noontime variety
show called It’s Showtime. This TV program is very popular nationwide and also being
broadcasted worldwide through The Filipino Channel. Our request to become part
of the live audience was intended for the celebration of the World Cancer Day.
Unfortunately, we were calendared a couple of months after we sent our request.
Wearing our old “Stomp Out Cancer” shirts, we were given priority seats in the
gallery. More importantly, we did not have to queue along with other interested
viewers. Each time the camera flashes, we took the opportunity to show our Touched
by Max, Inc. banner with caption “We live life to the Max! The daily noontime
show lasts for about 2 ½ hours with lots of entertainment.

In one of their segments, the
host came up to the audience members to ask for his/her impressions on the show
contestants. Two of the TBM members were approached by the host who got curious
with the shirt the group was wearing. Although star struck and camera shy, the
patients mentioned that they belong to a patient support group. It was a
one-minute TV exposure but enough to capture the interest of the audience and
viewing public. The shirts said it all and spoke on behalf of the cancer
community.

The patients/caregivers went home with smiles on
their faces and wished to have another similar therapeutic experience.
