Hi
everyone.

My name´s
Martha Rosario Molina, I was born on August 19th at Dominican
Republic, an island of the Caribbean. I´m a mother and wife. My
academic background is in Business Administration and currently
ongoing clinical psychology career.

Since
2003, when GIPAP started in Dominican Republic, I have been
privileged to be part of this program, but it was not until 2012,
when Ines visited Dominican Republic and gave me the opportunity to
grow within the foundation that I became a full Max Station, and
currently I am Local Coordinator of Dominican Republic, which means a
wonderful challenge that allows me to do things I enjoy. I don’t
see it as a job but as part of my daily life I feel that helping
others has allowed me to grow as a human being and as a professional.

I love
this pic, Latam 2014 Argentina.

Thanks to
the collaboration of the patients of the patient association Un Paso
Max and the team at The Max Foundation, we were able to identify in
the Dominican Republic, more than 200 patients with CML (outside
GIPAP) patients who currently don´t have access to continued
treatment in first line since it is the ministry of Public Health
through the Protected Program is who is responsible for the supply of
medicines for these patients and because of certain weaknesses of our
social security system, it is difficult for patients receive their
medication continuously.
In our
country, access to adequate monitoring for patients diagnosed with
CML is very difficult due to the high costs and no coverage by
insurance companies, generating this poor monitoring of the disease,
which is paramount issue for the clinical specialist evidence-based
criteria with specialized tests such as PCR.

Until now,
the possibility that these patients may have the chance to know if
their disease has progressed, if they are in remission or if they
need to move to another line of treatment was almost impossible. The
situation is changing, thanks to the Max Foundation and the support
and constant monitoring of Ines. Our country will be benefited by the
donation of a GeneXpert machine for PCR testing; this machine will be
installed in the Oncology Institute Dr. Heriberto Pieter, specialized
center and with over 70 years of experience in oncology, and
registered as an NGO located in the city of Santo Domingo, which is
attended by patients nationwide. This center is responsible for
conducting PCR testing, free of charge to all patients with CML and
make quarterly monitoring. Max will track each case, as well as each
patient’s adherence.
Patients
have already had the opportunity to know the benefits of this test
through Max’s education programs, such as the three colloquia
dictated by Dr. Jorge Cortes, they have a clear understanding of the
importance of this test and are happy to know that they can access
their quarterly monitoring at no cost, which would not have been
possible without the support of the Max Foundation.

The
stories Maria Gabriela

One
of the stories
that have touched
me
is the one of
Maria
Gabriela
De
Leon,
a 26-year-old
mother of two
beautiful
children Antony
Gabriel
8 and
Lianny
Gabriela
5.
Maria
Gabriela
was diagnosed with
CML in
best time
of her life,
as she describes
it, she had
many projects,
was happy with
her role
as mother and
wife,
but life puts you
through tests.
Having
overcome
the
trauma
of diagnosis,
Maria
Gabriela
was confronted
with
what she
describes as
a dilemma between
Faith and
Science,
while in
hematologic
remission and
having returned
to normal life,
she was
declared cured
by
god,
then
decides to leave
the treatment
and refuses
to visit
the doctor
even though
her health began
to rapidly
deteriorate,
increasing her levels of white blood cells to
98,000.
One day
I called her,
to know about her, and
invite her to
the second on
line dissertation of
Dr. Jorge
Cortes,
cost me
a lot to convince her, but
despite her
condition Maria
Gabriela
decided to go,
and it was
amazing the
transformation of
thoughts
and
attitude towards
life, her
reaction after
hearing everything
that Dr.
Cortes
said at the
conference
;
then
opted
retake her
treatment
and now
Maria
Gabriela
is stable,
back to her life,
committed to her
health, and very happy
moving forward
with her
personal and
professional projects.
