never a dull moment

Being a Max Station for a year I can say there are no dull
moment so during this journey I learned to keep my peace and balance in order
to give the best of myself and be efficient at my work to help others.
As of today , being a full time Max Station I have taken
more responsibilities by covering the French speaking countries which is a
total of 10 , each country is unique and grow at their own pace. In most of the
countries a support group have been created and in others not yet but the passion
is there. A little summary of the stage where the countries are and how the
future is looking.
Benin: a support has not been created yet, still
looking for potential patient leader but the physicians are very cooperative and
want some type of involvement to insure a proper management which is great.
Burkina Faso: a support group has been created with a
reliable patient leader. Would love seeing this group grow more by having
access to PCR and participate to workshop such as CML life Africa and CML
horizons in the future.
Ivory Coast: a support group has been created since last
year. On the building stage by having the members meet on the regular and be involved.
Group had participated to CML life Africa. Working closely to establish projects
with new board members of the support group.
Cameroon: a support group has been created and
participated to CML life Africa. Main challenge they were facing was creating
chapters in the different cities in order to send the message but working
on it. Looking to have access to PCR in 2016.
Gabon: not a registered support group yet. The
patients have been contacted and the idea has been introduced to them. They
were receptive and excited. Looking for the creation of a support group in the
future.
Guinee:  small cohort,
no patients registered yet.
Mali: a patient support group has been created and
they participated to CML Life Africa .Main challenge was the stigmatization of
the disease and the patients were not involved in the support group. I am
working closely with the board members so the patients can be involved in the
projects they establish.  Looking forward
to have access to PCR and attend conferences.
Niger: a support group has been created. Group
participated to CML life Africa and CML Horizons. They have access to PCR which
was made possible through Max Foundation and iCMLf grant.
Togo: a support group has been created. The group
participated to CML life Africa and CML Horizons. The group is looking toward
having access to PCR in their centers.
Senegal: support group has been created. The group participated
to CML Life Africa and have access to PCR through the donation of Max
Foundation and looking forward to a great access through the iCMLf grant and
participated to CML Horizons next year.
Overall the French speaking countries are growing and moving
forward moving toward their goals which is great access to care and monitoring for
the patients. There are challenges along the way but the well-being of the
patients is worth it. All of this would not be possible without the relentless
help of Max Foundation so I receive a lot of gratitude from the patients and
caregivers. I am looking forward to assist more these patients and also to more
partnership that could assist patients in other types of Cancer as well. In
Africa treatment in most of the Cancer is very expensive or sometimes nonexistent
so the Physicians usually just treat the symptoms so the patient does not
suffer. The patients are grateful to Max Foundation and looking forward to give
back.
