We all have seen the horror unfolding in Haiti. I want to let you know that we have been in contact with our partner organization in Haiti, Partners in Health (www.pih.org ), and are making a $5,000.00 donation in support of people living with blood cancer in Haiti.
The grant comes out of our patient group/community development program, and given that PIH is already our partner in the country, we can fit it within our support to our local partner organizations. We are specifying that the grant goes to Haiti relief.
Under the direction of Dr. Paul Farmer, Partners in Health has been working on the ground in Haiti for over 20 years. In the past few years, through our collaboration with Partners in Health, we have been able to reach people diagnosed with leukemia and other blood related cancers in Haiti, collaborating with them for GIPAP and Help cases (we have also collaborated with them in other countries such as Rwanda).
Dr Paul Farmer is currently been appointed by President Clinton as UN special envoy for Haiti. We have a great relationship with Partners in Health and with Dr Farmer himself and I see this as a great opportunity, not only to help our constituents in Haiti at this desperate time, but also to continue to build our relationship with PIH.
We are sending an email to our supporters encouraging them to support PIH, and we have added a story to our website on this issue.
